Registration Now Open for Module CS02: The Church and the Book, The Church at Prayer – to launch 2nd April 2013
Registration is now open for the second module of the Certificate Program in Orthodox Studies by Distance Learning. Module CS02, entitled The Church and the Book – The Church at Prayer, exposes students to the rich territory of the Orthodox Church’s understanding of Scripture in Tradition, and in particular to the way in which the ancient Scriptures — those now referred to as the Old Testament — are taken up by the Church as a testimony to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Texts from the ancient Scriptures are examined in detail, both as they are read and commented on by the Church, and as they are incorporated into the Church’s worshipping life.
If you are interested in the ways Orthodoxy understands Holy Tradition, the authority and place of Scripture in Church life, questions of ‘sola scriptura’, divine inspiration and the many ways in which the ancient Scriptures are infused into Orthodox life, then the content of module CS02 is aimed at you. Click here for a fuller detail of CS02 contents.
As with all the Certificate Program modules, the content of module CS02 is delivered to students through a rich variety of interactive, distance learning based methods. On- and off-line readings are combined with audio lectures and slide presentations; interactive forum assignments bring students into dialogue and critical discussion with one another; video lessons and short films bring ancient sites to life; short text assignments lead to longer module essays; on-line text based ‘chat’ classes lead into one-on-one tutorial sessions via video conferencing or in person; blog reflections incorporate personal reflections into critical learning; etc.
Registration for module CS02 is open now, which means any actively-enrolled Certificate Program student can click here to register for module CS02 immediately, including paying the Module Registration Fee of just $300.00 (see fee schedule). The scheduled start date for actual course study is 2nd April 2013 (see start date calendar): actual module delivery will start on that date, or as soon after that date as a suitable cohort size of students have registered.
While modules within the Certificate Program are normally taken in order (see a listing of modules), it is entirely possible to begin work on CS02 while you are still finishing up CS01; or to take CS02 independently without CS01 as a prerequisite (if, however, you are interested in taking module CS01, you can click here to register for CS01 for a similar start date).
If you are not yet an enrolled student on the Certificate Program, please click here for further details and an on-line application form.
