How Much Does the Certificate Program Cost?
The Certificate Program by Distance Learning not only represents an amazingly flexible course of higher study in Orthodox Christianity: it also represents a remarkable value for money. You have the option either to pay as you go on a module-by-module basis, or to pay in advance and receive a substantial course discount.
We are committed to offering higher-level study in Orthodox Christianity in a manner that is affordable and accessible, and the tuition rates offered for the Certificate Program by Distance Learning reflect this committment both by being discounted and flexible, offering you different ways to approach tuition payment.
Current Tuition Schedule (2016-17):*
This one-time, non-refundable fee must be paid at the time you submit your application, and covers the cost of the admissions process. No applications are considered without payment of this fee.
Once you have been accepted, this one-time fee is assessed to register you fully on the Certificate Program, including establishment of your student file, creation of your web accounts and granting of access to relevant electronic resources, etc. (NOTE: This fee must be received by the Institute within 10 days of notification of your acceptance, in order to confirm your place on the course.)
|$200.00 Discounted to $175.00 if you pay this fee together with your first module registration fee|
|Module Fee (per Module)
This is the per-module fee for each module in the Certificate Program by Distance Learning (with the exception of the Dissertation Module; see below). Included is all instruction in the module, access to all distance learning materials and elements (e.g. video lectures), assessment of assigned work and marking, as well as personal supervision and advising, including up to three one-hour tutorial sessions of one-on-one live video, audio or text-based conferencing with your instructor per module. (This also includes provision of all on-line readings; students may be required to purchase some hardcopy volumes per module, but these tend to be limited to between 1-3 books per module, and are generally affordable volumes and easily obtainable.)
This is the fee for the Dissertation Module. Included is the provision of a supervisor who will guide the independent research that leads to student submission of the dissertation, together with internal and external reading and marking.
|Graduation / Certificate & Transcript Fee
This fee covers the cost of providing you with two copies of your completion Certificate and transcripts at the end of the course.
* These tuition / fee rates are current as of 1st September 2016, and have been set to remain at the indicated levels until at least 1st April 2017. While our aim is always to keep tuition costs as low as possible, the Institute reserves the right to raise its tuition rates as it deems necessary (usually assessed annually), keeping in line with inflation and the costs of running our programs effectively. Students always pay those rates which are current at the time that payment is made. This means, for example, that if you register for a module this year, you pay the current module registration fee of $350. If tuition increases to $365 next year, and it is next year that you register for your next module, you will pay the then-current rate of $365 for your module. By contrast, if you pay for two modules now, each of them costs the current rate of $350, even if tuition increases next year.
Discounted Tuition for Whole-Course Enrollment: Get an Entire Module Free
Once you have become a registered student of the Institute and enrolled for a the Certificate Program by Distance Learning, you may pay for each module as you take it, at the rates above (registration and payment for modules are generally due at least one full calendar month before beginning a module), so long as you satisfy the Course Completion Requirements (which include timing requirements).
However, the Institute offers a special incentive for those who register and pay for their whole course at the beginning of their studies. If, at the time of Course Registration, you pay all your tuition and fees together (i.e. the Student Registration fee, all eight modules, the dissertation module, and the graduation / transcript fee), you will receive a discount equivalent to the full cost of one of your modules.
(This option can only be taken up by telephone. Once you have applied and are notified of acceptance onto the Certificate Program, please contact us by telephone if you wish to take advantage of this discount. Please note that that this discounted pre-payment rate may not be combined with other discount incentives, including early registration discounts.)
If you choose to pay for the whole course in this manner, you may take the modules of your course as your schedule permits over a period of up to three years from the date of your initial registration (extensions available by arrangement with the Director of Studies; extension fees may apply, as usual). You must still register for each module as you wish to take it, so that instructors will know to plan for your participation, etc.; however, no fees will be due.
Discounts for Symposium/Conference Participation for Enrolled Students in Distance Learning Programs
Students actively enrolled in the Certificate of Orthodox Studies by Distance Learning, or other qualifying Distance Learning programs, may participate at a discounted rate in the symposia and conferences of the Institute that directly relate to their course of study, and which count for credit on their program (these will be made known to enrolled students by the Institute administration).
All payments of tuition, fees and other course charges are final once made and non-refundable, with the following exception: an individual Module Registration Fee is refundable, less a $250 administrative fee (which covers incurred costs of establishing electronic accounts, student files, etc.), if a student withdraws from the module within three (3) calendar days from the scheduled module start date by sending an e-mail through the Institute’s web-based e-mailer notifying the Institute of the withdrawl and formally requesting a refund of the fee. This withdrawl refund may be exercised only once during a student’s enrollment with the Institute; subsequent withdrawls from any further modules will not be entitled to a refund of paid Module Registration Fees.
