How to track and view your grades in the on-line grader
The Institute uses a suite of integrated tools within our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to mark assignments, provide thorough feedback and record your grades across various modules.
This on-line grader makes it easy for you to see grades you have already received, overall module results progress, as well as feedback received on your assignments.
You can access the on-line grader from within any module in the VLE, at any time. First, go to the module’s resource suite; then, towards the bottom of the left-hand column, locate the ‘Administration’ section, and select the ‘Grades’ link from within ‘Course administration’ (fig. 1):

When you click on the link for the on-line grader, you will be taken to your User Report for the module. This is the ‘gradebook’ for the module, in which you will see a listing of all the module’s assignments organized by category / assignment type, potential grade ranges, and the marks and feedback already given for any completed assignments (fig. 2):

For each completed assignment that has been awarded a grade, you will see both the percentage grade as well as the Institute’s equivalent letter grade. For those assignments where you have not yet received a grade, you will find a dash (‘ – ‘) indicating that the assignment has not yet been marked.
An important note on category totals: Category totals are listed beneath each category, and show your composite grade for all assignments within that category (e.g. forum-based assignments, short-essays). It is important to remember, however, that these category totals will appear to be quite low until you’ve completed all the assignments in the category, since they compute the weighted average of all assignments in the category (which will include 0-marks for assignments you’ve not yet completed). Don’t worry about this! These category totals will have meaning only when the category is completed as a whole (e.g. at the end of your module study).
A note on the feedback column: The feedback column will highlight feedback comments made on a given assignment by the instructor who marked it. Remember that some assignment types (particularly, forum assignment contributions) may not have feedback indicated in the grader, since feedback for those assignment types is generally offered in the forums themselves. When feedback is offered for other assignment types, such as mini-essays, quizzes, etc., you will find the comments here (and will also receive an e-mail notification when the feedback is initially given).
A note on the total module grade: The total module (overall) grade is indicated at the bottom of the on-line grader display, and like category totals will appear to be very low until all your assignments are complete. When you have entirely completed a module, you will be notified by the Institute and this mark will then reflect your final module grade. Remember that the total grade for a module is a weighted average of the component category totals, each of which has a different weighting in the overall result (for example, an essay might be worth 40% of a module final grade, while the combined forum-assignment results may be worth 20%, etc.). The precise weightings for each module are found in the ‘How this module is graded’ document at the top of the module’s VLE resource suite.

You can also use the on-line grader to see your total module grades for all modules you’ve taken or are currently taking. At the top of the on-line grader screen, use the drop-down list to change ‘User Report’ to ‘Overview Report’ (fig. 3):

Once you have switched to ‘Overview Report’, you’ll be presented with a listing that displays all the modules on which you are registered, and your current final module mark for each (fig. 4):
